We just visited today on the off chance and were pleasantly suprised at what the venue had to offer. Much preferred it to Barley Hall in York which was one of our recent visits. Very infomative, would recommend it as a family day out.

I visited the Old Hall yesterday with my wife Helen. I have recently read about the life of Catherine Parr(Henry VIII's 6th wife), who lived at the hall with her 1st husband Lord Brough. We were surprised to find no reference to her, why is this, she is quite an important historical figure? However we were not dissapointed, the hall is fantastic and remarkably well preserved/restored. Like Ian, we wondered what the trees with the 'blackberry like' fruits are.

Me and my colleague decided to visit the old hall yesterday after work as we have never been. We really enjoyed our time there and the upstairs chamber where the pianos and paintigs are was amazing- oh, and this was about 2mpish- my friend leaned a little over one of the ropes to read some small print and something knocked a small White monitor thingy off from across the room- totally freaked us a little as we were the only two people there in the room!!!

I have been to Gainsborough Old Hall three times, the first when I was 10/11years old with my junior school. I also visited again as I was passing for an impromtu visit to a Christmas fair (It was brilliant). I then brought my son, friend and her daughter. I still love it very much and still find it amazing. I am preparing for another visit as my son is learning about the Tudors at school this term and is unable to remember his first visit! I can't wait and I am looking forward to the cut out part of the floor in one of the bedrooms my favourite part? THANK YOU to all the preserve it for future generations!

Hello - I am researching illusionists called Maskelyne and Cooke who performed at the 'Corn Exchange' in Gainsborough in 1870. Could that have been the Old Hall? I understand that the building was used as a corn exchange at some point. Could you recommend who I could talk to about the use of the hall in the 1860s/70s? Many thanks, Sue
